Mutafukaz

“Mutafukaz” tells the story of Angelino, a 22-year-old guy from the slums of “Dark Meat City”: a crime-ridden, fantasized dystopian version of Los Angeles, which Angelino describes as “desperate, miserable, crap”. One day on his daily pizza delivery tour, Angelino is distracted by a beautiful girl. As a result, he crashes on his scooter, loses his job, and all hell breaks loose: Angelino sees tentacles protruding from people’s shadows in the street – from men in black who seem to be hunting him. Gradually convinced that he’s not just suffering from paranoid hallucinations, Angelino tries to work out what he’s stumbled into with his flaming skull-headed friend Vinz and Willy, their fox-like, loudmouthed friend.
The story covers current issues such as climate change, terrorism and economic uncertainty. “Mutafukaz” is a fast-paced, gripping story about friendship, survival, self-realization and violence. Fourteen years after releasing a short film of the same name and the widely popular comic book series, Guillaume ’Run’ Renard co-directed this feature film with Shoujiri Nishimi, who is known for his work on “Akira” and “Batman: Gotham Knight”. It is Run’s first feature-length film – after premiering in Annecy in 2017, it went on to screen in London, Chicago and Tokyo. (db)
