Seemingly endless grass-lands, wild tulips, steppe eagles hunting … a magic circle of seasons with winters at -40 and summers at +40 degrees Celsius. Thus the setting for the director‘s happy childhood on a tiny Soviet military base in the Southern Urals. Only decades later does she learn about the terrible nuclear testing at the military training ground at Totsk in which her father participated as lieutenant of the Red Army.
