Our Thursday Programme

Check out our gallery for daily festival impressions!

A silent film with live music, a documentary in presence of the director, various «Coming Soons», and our well-known competitions await the Fantoche audience on Thursday.

Competitions

What would Fantoche be without its competitions? Since our founding we’ve honoured the animation scene’s best contributions with numerous prizes, with the audience always being able to participate in the voting process as well.

  • Starting from 2.30pm, the various programmes of the «International Competition» are shown in the cinema Trafo 1. Four screenings with great shorts from around the world.
  • The two «Swiss Competitions», which do not have to shy away from their international cousins at all, will be screened one after the other in the cinema Trafo 2 starting from 12.45pm.
  • Those who can make it to the festival a bit earlier, will be able to enjoy the «Hors concours»-programmes 1 (cinema Trafo 1, 12.15pm) and 2 (cinema Trafo 2, 10.30am).

Coming soons

  • Based on the correspondence found on the computers of a rebel leader, «La Jungle rouge» tells of the harsh realities of the guerilla war in Colombia. In their coming soon in the cinema Sterk 1 at 12:15pm, the directors Juan José Lozano and Zòltan Horvàth talk about their unconventional approach – a combination of CGI and rotoscoping.
  • Also in the cinema Sterk 1, at 2pm, we show the coming soon of «Interdit aux chiens et aux Italiens», a tribute to the hundreds of thousands Italian immigrants who left their homeland in hope of a better future. Present are directors Alain Ughetto and producer Nicolas Burlet.

Feature films

  • lze Burkovska Jacobsen’s documentary animated film «My Favorite War», which tells of her childhood during the Soviet occupation and her exposure to propaganda, is shown in the cinema Trafo 3 at 6.30pm. The screening will be accompanied by a Q&A with the director.
  • The oldest still surviving animated feature, «Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed», takes audiences on a trip to the world of «One Thousand and One Nights». In cooperation with the IOIC, we show the film with live music by the band Bitter Moon in the cinema Trafo 2 at 8.30pm.
