Fantoche 2021: The selection is final!

The Fantoche selection team has chosen 75 films, now showing in four international, two Swiss and two children’s programmes. Another four “Hors Concours” programmes round out the selection of the latest animated films.

Entrants include brand new filmmakers with incredible débuts alongside famous names from the world of animation. Belgian Nicolas Keppens picked up the Best Film award at Fantoche with Matthias Phlips back in 2018 for “Wildebeest” and is back this year with “Easter Eggs”. British filmmaker Joanna Quinn was honoured with a retrospective at the 2020 festival and has entered her latest animated film “Affairs of the Art” for consideration for one of the five prizes in the International Competition.

The films are by turns colourful and serious, narrative and experimental, funny and deeply moving. “I’m moved to see that animators’ creative forces have not been thwarted by the pandemic. These films HAD to be made. They show that culture isn’t a luxury we can do without – it’s part of our existence, like the air we breathe,” says festival director Annette Schindler.
