Fantoche on Friday!

Two Coming Soons will be presented in the morning, starting from 11:00. The Dutch animated film “Oink’s Revenge” was produced during the pandemic in a garage that has been converted into a fully equipped stop-motion studio. Director Mascha Halberstad and producer Marleen Slot will be present to talk about it. Afterwards at 12:45, Julien De Man (Art Director & Background Supervisor) will talk about “Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman”, by director Pierre Földes, who is filming Haruki Murakami’s work, and will tell why animation is an excellent medium for this project.

If you like things crazy and unusual, you should definitely watch “Poupelle of Chimney Town” in Trafo 2 at 13:15. Directed by Hirota Yusuke, this 2020 anime is screening today only at Fantoche and will immerse you in a strange world of a desolate town with gigantic chimneys, where a lonely chimney sweep named Lubicchi develops a tender friendship with the rubbish man he christens Poupelle.

At 16:00 we will show a retrospective of Canadian animator Caroline Leaf in Trafo 2. She created her first animated films during her studies from 1964 to 1968, and her films are known for their emotional content and unique style. She takes on the roles of director, animator, designer, and screenwriter respectively, developing her own techniques and combining storytelling with the exploration of materials. We will show five important films of her life‘s work.

The 7th Industry Day highlights current topics in a very practical way: from the new Master‘s programme at the HSLU, to questions around studio start-ups, cash flow versus creativity or marketing and distribution. International guests offer insights into their work, share their experiences, and jointly explore how (Swiss) animation film can be established more successfully. At the end of the “Industry Day”, the 4th Swiss Animation Industry Award (SAIA) will be presented.
