Sarnt Utamachote

Sarnt Utamachote is a Southeast Asian nonbinary filmmaker and curator based in Berlin who has the strong believe that cinema provides an outlet for social engagement and collective healing. Their video installation “I Am Not Your Mother” (2020) was exhibited at IFFR 2020 and their short film “Soy Sauce” (2020) was screened at various festivals such as OutFest Fusion LA, Xposed Berlin, and Queer East London 2021. They have won the pitch for Xposed Short Film Fund Berlin 2020 as well as the Dok Composition Award at Dokfest Munich 2022. Sarnt co-founded un. thai.tled, a collective of Thai-German diasporic artists, and curated film events at Sinema Transtopia/bi’bak Berlin as well as exhibitions about postcolonial histories, Southeast Asian diaspora and activism. Today, they work as a programmer and are also part of the selection committee for Xposed Queer Film Festival Berlin and Short Film Festival Hamburg.
