Doris Cleven

Doris Cleven (*1955) completed a master’s degree in English-Russian translation before going on to work in various cultural associations. In 1984, she was hired as a production assistant at Graphoui, a Brussels-based cartoon studio, and discovered the world of animation, which she has never left since. She worked alongside Philippe Moins, the founder of the Brussels Cartoon Festival. In 1988, they founded the non-profit organisation Folioscope to continue the running of the festival, which became Anima in 2003 and today welcomes nearly 40,000 people. Doris was co-director of the festival until 2014, responsible for programming and organisation. She then became director until her retirement in 2020. She has contributed to the promotion of animation through the festival, the release of DVDs and writing articles on animation. She has given courses in the history of animation at various art schools.
