Nerdland

John and Elliot are fed up with their loser lifes under the auspicious Hollywood sign. As an aspiring actor and screenwriter in their early thirties whose hopes have fizzled, the two live in a world where everyone dreams of becoming famous even though their houses sink behind the billboards. But today is the day – they want to finally make the breakthrough! It would be quite laughable if the videos of farting dogs clicked on a million times over couldn’t be outdone. Fiercely determined, John and Elliot plunge themselves into all kinds of adventure, aiming to conquer the screens of the world and the hearts of the ladies as digital stars. And they are game for anything… “Nerdland” is a fast-paced, witty reckoning with a generation enchanted by the ever-present promises for attention. The film tells the story of two naïve guys who set forth to be finally seen. Indeed, John and Elliot sense the importance of their crazy plans that oscillates somewhere between the rigours of show business and the easy-fame promises of the Internet. But in their world, love and appreciation are only felt via the blue glimmer of their mobile phone screens. Do they find what they really want on their Odyssey 2.0? Using brisk strokes and surreal colours, film director Chris Prynoski presents an extremely entertaining and self-mocking with his first fiction film. And it is only fitting that the two comedians Patton Oswalt and Paul Rudd lend the protagonists their voices. The age rating of 16+ indicates that “Nerdland” is a film for adults – and especially for thirty-year-old kids.
