Histoire de Mr. Vieux-Bois

The unique film version of R. Töpffer’s picture book (1837), “Vieux Bois” is one of the few feature-length European animated films from the 1920s and represents a historical link between the worlds of comics and film. It was created by Lortac and Cavé from France using stop-motion animation and produced by a company from Geneva.
A new digital restoration from Cinémathèque Suisse, with the support of Memoriav, will be shown for the first time at Fantoche.
Live music by: IOKOI
The singer and electronics engineer IOKOI looks back on a long, diverse and fruitful relationship to moving images, ranging from live visuals that add new facets to her music, to soundtracks, fashion trailers and live scoring of historical silent. With her heart-piercing music between somewhere and nowhere – ambient, drones and pop – she manages to bring the old films into the present with ease and make them accessible to a new audience.
