The Swiss animation industry was a pretty lonely stage for women for a very long time. Until the 1980s, hardly any female directors were able to develop their own cinematic body of work. On this panel, female filmmakers from different generations reflect on their past experiences and expectations for the future.

Panel Participants:

Monique Renault, Director, France and Hollande
Since the 70ties, Monique Renault works continuously on her own animated short films and in numerous cooperations. Between 1972 and 200 she finished 12 independent films in Paris and Amsterdam. One of them (Swiss Grafiti, 1975) she realized together with Swiss documentation filmmaker Jacqueline Veuve.

Isabelle Favez, Director, Switzerland
Isabelle Favez has realized 13 of her own films since 1993. As such, she is one of the first woman in Switzerland, who could create her own oeuvre of animated short films.

Marjolane Perreten, Director, Switzerland
Marjolaine Perreten completed her education in France (Poudrière, Valance), and produced six independent films since 2014. In 2017 she also founded the Festival du film d’animation in Savigny.

Moderation: Jayne Pilling, Animation specialist, UK
Alreday back in 1992 Jayne Pilling published «Woman & Animation: A Compendium” and ever since is very aware of the situation of filmmakers in the field of Animation. Als Animation specialist, historian and film curator she is familiar with the siutation in Switzerland as well as other countries in Europe.
