Le Grand Méchant Renard

The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales

There is a lot going on in this comedy! In this latest work by Benjamin Renner and Patrick Imbert – the authors had already collaborated on the very successful production “Ernest et Célestine” in 2012 – a rabbit, a duck and a pig rescue a (human) baby mistakenly delivered to a small farm near Avignon by an inept stork. Although the heroes’ world is small at the onset, it continues to expand in the course of this turbulent story – beginning with the nearby forest, which is by no means safe, and ultimately taking them to other continents. In the strained relationship between the forest and farm creatures, their roles appear to be classic: the fox is sly, the baby chicks are helpless, the hens staidly simple-minded and the wolf is a mischievous loner. But they all develop their many facets as characters in the course of the film.

“Le Grand Méchant Renard” is based on the comics of the same name by Benjamin Renner and remains true to its subtle drawing style. It was honoured with the FNAC Grand Prix in 2016 and awards at the festivals in Tours and Angoulême, among others.

The film was recently screened at the festival in Annecy and is now presented for the first time in German-speaking Europe at Fantoche. Thanks to its dynamic and ingeniously drawn characters, “Le Grand Méchant Renard” will not only cast a spell over our young viewers, but also thoroughly entertain their parents. (az)
