Passengers from the most diverse situations in life are brought together on a scheduled flight from Los Angeles to Boston: Craig Toomey, a real estate agent on the verge of a nervous breakdown; Dinah, a blind girl, and her companion Laurel; Nick, a short-tempered Brit; Brian, an experienced pilot; and Bob Jenkins, author of mystery stories. After waking from a deep sleep, the group is shocked to discover that all the other passengers and staff have disappeared from the plane without a trace.

Thanks to Brian’s know-how as a pilot, they can make an emergency landing in Bangor, Maine. But there is no trace of life at the airport either. The haunting situation soon begins to affect the group psychologically: especially Toomey, who suffers from a traumatic childhood, becomes increasingly delusional. Believing he is being pursued by man-eating monsters, he tries to force the others to take him to Boston.

Aristotelis Maragkos made a name for himself at various festivals with his experimental short films. As the basis for his first feature-length film, he used the 1995 miniseries “The Langoliers”, based on the horror story of the same name by Stephen King. Maragkos printed every single image from the series in black and white and rearranged them in a collage-like fashion, overlaying, tearing or crumpling the images in places. The innovative approach transforms the conventional television production into a mesmerising nightmare that immediately transports us into the subjectively distorted perspective of the characters. An oppressive experience whose surreal impressions resonate for a long time. (Mischa Haberthür)
