Every year in the United States of America innocent people are imprisoned or sentenced to death. James McCloskey and his organisation “Centurion Ministries” can no longer accept this disgrace. The animation film “Truth Has Fallen” is an associative flow comprising tags of memories, mesmerizing images and indignant voices reporting on the fates of three US citizens who spent many years in prison years because they were wrongfully convicted of murders they never committed. Discovering inconsistencies in inmate files, McCloskey was able to exonerate and free innocent individuals from prison as a result of exhaustive reinvestigation. The injustice and powerlessness experienced when subjected to an oppressive and inscrutable judicial system is unsparingly depicted in a stream of images and retold by the former inmates. 25 years, 9 years, 13 years – that’s how long Eddie Baker, Joyce Ann Brown and Jimmy Lando have been incarcerated. Turning over and over again in their minds are incessant questions about the murders, committed in fact by others, but for which they were penalised. And repeatedly, the question: why? “Truth Has Fallen” exposes an imponderable potential due to fatal flaws: false testimonies, indolent investigative officials, distortion of evidence due to complacency, impermissible methods of interrogation, the inability of the jury to reach a verdict… A compelling documentary film that clearly demonstrates the relevance of McCloskey’s work, captured in a unique hybrid of animation and staged live-action – startling and riveting.
