20 years of Fantoche: more film submissions

1,371 film submissions from 73 countries, 76 films from Switzerland – these are impressive figures and the perfect way to celebrate the festival’s 20th anniversary. Fantoche is pleased to note that the number has continued to increase this year. This year was remarkable due to the fact that some incomplete works were submitted, demonstrating how important it is to film makers that they enter the competition.

As festival director Annette Schindler states, “Being able to show your new artistic endeavour at Fantoche and even winning a prize can provide a significant career boost for many film makers. Fantoche wants to be a platform for films that are unconventional in terms of content and/or use of technology, that deftly question film norms, and that deconstruct conventions and practices. We welcome projects that push expression in animation beyond existing boundaries, that are bold in their experimentation, and that truly stand out through their artistic independence. At the same time, Fantoche is also interested in traditional auteur works that catch the eye through a balanced union of idea and implementation, content and form. It consciously juxtaposes the latter against the competition’s more experimental contributions. At heart Fantoche is about the friction between vision and tradition and opening a window onto the creative realms of animated film.”

The selection group has already compiled the films to be screened at the festival as part of the competition programme (click the link on the right to see the list):
