Réka Bucsi’s masterclass starts at 10:00 in the Trafo 3. If you want to know how she makes her poetic and dreamlike short films, you’ll certainly have the chance to ask her yourself. By the way, she also produced this year’s trailer.

At 13:00 in Trafo 3 we will be showing “Earwig and the Witch” by Studio Ghibli, the most famous Japanese animation film studio in the world. With their first CGI film, which stands for “Computer Generated Image”, they are leaving their usual technique behind. Who else is curious to see how they implemented it?

We are celebrating 100 years of animated film in Switzerland! But it’s only been in the last 30 years or so that female filmmakers have been able to continuously create their own works. In our curated programme “Animation au féminin”, we put their stories in the spotlight in Sterk 1 at 14:30. Afterwards, the panel “Women in Swiss Animation” will take place in the Rampe at 16:00, a discussion about the experiences and expectations of the different generations of female filmmakers. With: Monique Renault, Isabelle Favez and Marjolaine Perreten. The panel will be moderated by Jayne Pilling.

At 18:30 the “Sneak Peek: GSFA-Special” will follow in the Orient cinema, showing the range from the first Swiss animated film in 1921 (accompanied by live music) to works created entirely on the computer.

Who doesn’t know the scandalous world of South Park? Episodes critical of religion in particular caused an outcry. In cooperation with “royalscandalcinema” we will show two of these “criticised” episodes and the theologian Emil Bjørn Hilton Saggau from Sweden will offer insights into the associated scandalisation processes. 19:45; Trafo 3 cinema.

To conclude the day, we recommend the retrospective of Signe Baumane at 21:15 in Sterk 1. Her work is unique and distinctive. In her films she takes up themes such as sex or depression and conveys intimate feelings in visual metaphors. With a lot of irony and humour, she makes them tangible. The artist is present, tells something about each of her short films and presents her latest production “My love affair with marriage”, which will be released next year.
