REFRESH X Fantoche

What influence do immersive technologies such as augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR) have on our self-perception? How does artificial intelligence (AI) change our behaviour as individuals and as a society? How do advances in digitalisation affect the creative industry and what potential does it yield for its subdisciplines? The interdisciplinary exhibition “REFRESH x Fantoche” – initiated by the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and Fantoche – addresses these questions and brings together selected projects that examine visions of the future for design and the arts. 

The following topics will be examined in greater detail in “New Realities: Design – Art – Technology”: immersive journalism, immersive play, digital identities and digital doubles. With the aid of films, games, VR experiences and innovative technical experiments, the exhibition reflects the zeitgeist, but also questions the role of designers and artists in an increasingly digitalised world and discusses the possibilities of a binding code of ethics for dealing with the flood of available data.

REFRESH is an interdisciplinary festival that brings together designers, artists, researchers and experts from Switzerland and abroad. It takes place every year in Zurich and is initiated by the Department of Design and the Immersive Arts Space at ZHdK. (Maike Thies)
