Brexit: Goodbye To All That?

Le moine et le poisson, Michael Dudok de Wit, FR 1994

This programme offers a broad overview of the British animation scene, an industry that was shaped not only by British talent, but by young people from all over Europe (including Switzerland). And now it is time to celebrate its apex. The 1990s are considered to be the ‘golden age’ of British animation due to the development of a range of styles and techniques, a surge of creativity and a respectable haul of international prizes coming home to British shores. For the festival’s focus on the UK, Fantoche looks at the early days of Aardman Studios, the emergence of the animated documentary film, and the works of artists who have settled on the island, including Michaël Dudok de Wit and the Brothers Quay.
