Seoul Station

A nasty epidemic is running rampant in the heart of South Korea: the agent lodges itself in the body of a down-at-heel homeless man in the railway station and rapidly unleashes itself in downtown Seoul. Soon after his dead body disappears as if by magic – and at the same time, the population morphs into a horde of bloodthirsty zombies like wildfire. The public authorities seal off the inner city completely, hoping to hold out until the end of the epidemic – until no one remains. Suk-gyu attempts to track down his runaway daughter in this ominous setting. By this time, she finds herself at the bottom of the social ladder, keeping herself and her good-for-nothing boyfriend above water with her job as a call girl – and is also targeted by the living dead. A nerve-racking hunt ensues in the streets of Seoul that ends in a highly explosive twist. In his third fiction film, the South Korean Sang-ho Yeon (“The King of Pigs”, “The Fake”) takes aim with poisoned arrows again against social injustices in his country. His story of a broken family runs up against South Korea’s lower class and translates social alienation and inequalities into a fast-paced zombie apocalypse. “Seoul Station” is a low-budget film that captivates due to an expressive formal language and promises an action-packed film experience.
