Hungarian Animation: A Visual and Social Art Form

Over the past 50 years – from the Communist era to the present – Hungarian directors have been contributing to the international world of animation with a fresh take on form and content. Visual innovation and a critical view on life have char- acterised emblematic pieces such as “Sisyphus” with its bold line drawings, or the unique first-person perspective in “The Fly”. In addition to these widely renowned artworks, lesser-known films have gained attention as well, including the full-length musical documentary “Bubble Bath”. The wide range of projects highlights Hungarian filmmakers’ commitment to exploring all the possibilities of animation as a visual and social art form.
